ARTIST STATEMENT: Over the last two weeks, The Creative High Inspiration Series and its panel discussion has inspired me to action to use my art as a therapeutic tool to draw awareness, inspire others and heal myself while going through these very difficult times. The speakers reminded me of my gift and the connection I have to music and art and how I like to paint the artists and people who inspire me. I revisited this portrait of Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington because they were beautiful people and passionate artists who suffered and succeeded publicly. I have often been compared to Chester and want this piece to shine light on anyone dealing with depression, addiction, repressed sexual trauma, child abuse, suicidal thoughts, and any sort of loss. The child represents those of us who have fallen down and continue to try to regain their footing in the dark while climbing the spiral staircase of life which indicates the twelve steps between Chester and Chris. I want this piece to give others hope; that we can find support and hold light for one another right now. As someone who has been tormented by my own critic, cycles of depression and fear of not becoming successful with my art or how to market myself and share it with the world, I am now ready to embrace my own Creative High!
